Game ended service in December, before anime's premiere
Nexon announced on Friday that it has no plans to reopen service for its Kemono Friends smartphone game, despite the stated popularity of the game's anime adaptation.
CFO Shirō Uemura's statement is as follows:
We hear the anime that is airing is very popular, but circumstances now are different from what we were dealing with last year. There's also the issue of timing, but when we initially invest in a game, we consider developments while we're looking at the daily KPI [key performance indicators]. At that time there were no plans to continue. There might be something if we maybe launched now, but in the end we consider this a completed title. The game ended service on December 14, before the anime premiered on January 10. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.
Nexon launched the smartphone game last year, and as of March the game was free-to-play. In the RPG, animals around the world have transformed into girls and players could recruit them into their party for battle.
