OVA's 1st part airs on March 31

The official website for the High School Fleet (Haifuri) television anime announced on Tuesday that the series' original video anime (OVA) is slated for May 24 on both Blu-ray Disc and DVD. Online retailer Amazon is listing the release as 48 minutes long.

The OVA itself will have two parts, and the release will include a main disc and bonus disc. The limited edition will include a box with art by the anime's character designer Naoto Nakamura, original drama and character song CD, a deluxe design booklet supervised by Takaaki Suzuki, and six super-deformed character stickers. The Blu-ray Disc will cost 7,000 yen (about US$61), and the DVD will cost 6,000 yen (US$52).

The first part of the OVA will air on BS11 on March 31 at 11:30 p.m.

The original 12-episode television anime series premiered in Japan on April 9. Aniplex of America licensed the series, and the show streamed on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Daisuki. The anime's official Twitter account announced earlier this month that various projects and programs are in the works.

Aniplex of America describes the story of the television series:

Living by the sea, protecting the sea, and journeying across the sea...They're the BLUE MERMAIDS! Because of a shift in tectonic plates around 100 years ago, Japan lost much of its area to submergence. To preserve Japan's territories, Coastal Cities sprung up, one after the other. Eventually, they became Marine Cities, and along with the expansion of sea-lanes to connect them, the need arose for a sizable staff to protect the seas. At the same time, maritime jobs were becoming more popular among women. Hence, the BLUE MERMAIDS, tasked with keeping the seas safe, had become every female student's dream job. This is when childhood friends Akeno Misaki and Moeka China enroll in a marine high school in Yokosuka, along with other girls who share their goal of "BECOMING A BLUE MERMAID."

Yuu Nobuta (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, Blade & Soul episode director) directed the series at Production IMS. Reiko Yoshida (Non Non Biyori, K-ON!, Yowamushi Pedal) handled series composition, and Atto (Non Non Biyori manga) drew more than 30 original character designs for the series. Naoto Nakamura (A Certain Scientific Railgun, Haganai) designed the characters and served as chief animation director. Takaaki Suzuki (Girls und Panzer, Strike Witches, Upotte!! military history adviser) was credited with the original work for the series.
