This year marks 50 years since Monkey Punch's unstoppable thief Lupin the Third began serialization in Weekly Manga Action magazine. A special mook (magazine book) looking back on decades of anime adaptations was released on Tuesday.

Lupin the Third: Dai Kaibō includes five features. It contains a discussion of the changes in the anime's character designs and episode titles, an interview with Monkey Punch titled "Celebration! Original Lupin the Third Manga's 50th Anniversary," an interview with Lupin the IIIrd Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon director Takeshi Koike, an interview with long time Lupin voice actor Kanichi Kurita and Goemon Ishikawa voice actor Daisuke Namikawa, and a section dedicated to the women, cars, and villains that appear in the series.

The Lupin franchise is a massive undertaking for the uninitiated. Writer Reed Nelson gave his opinion on what episodes from Parts 1-4 and what movies and specials are worth investing your time in.

The Lupin the IIIrd Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon film will open in theaters in Japan on Saturday.
